Fear of loss fades away after you realize that you really have nothing to lose. We never actually own anything here. Even the most intimate of your possessions such as a favorite toy from childhood or a cherished photo really don’t belong to you. While you are here you get to enjoy them, but after you are gone they will remain here to be enjoyed by someone else. Even your body will be absorbed back into the earth after you move on. The only things that we can bring with us are our experiences and the love inside us, nothing else matters.
Part of the problem that many people face is that we tend to define ourselves by the things we have, the people we know and what others think of us. You fear the loss of any outer status symbols you have because your own identity becomes attached to them and by losing any one of them you feel as though a part of yourself has been lost – or your self worth has been diminished. Freedom from this fear can be achieved by your full understanding that these outer things do not define you or determine your worth.
You are not what you have.
You are not what others think of you.
You are not the car you drive.
You are not your accomplishments.
You are not your failures.
You are not your body.
You are not your net worth.
You are not the home you live in.
You are not the people you know.
You are not how much you know.
The outer world does not define you and if you are seeking approval from others by these false means, true happiness and peace will always elude you. If you want to be truly happy, peaceful and free from the fear of loss you need to first approve of yourself.
Once you can do that, you will no longer need to worry about the house, the car, the job, the money, or other people because your self worth is not subject to the change by the loss of any one of them. Once you stop worrying about the potential for loss, you will cease attracting the mechanisms for that loss into your life and begin to open yourself up to receiving bigger and better things.

In order to help others – and do so in a way that doesn’t drain you to the point where you are exhausted mentally, physically, spiritually or financially – you need to start with yourself first. This is not a selfish thing to do because if you are healthy and coming from a place of abundance then you will be overflowing with the love, compassion and resources necessary to really make a difference in this world. This goes back to the old saying “if you aren’t happy, you can’t make anyone else around you happy either.” Such is the case with everything else – if you don’t have it within yourself then it isn’t there for you to offer to someone else. Start with you and the rest will follow.

Thinking positive is important, but you also need to clear the negativity from your subconscious or you have effectively poured a layer of sugar over an old cup of moldy coffee. It isn’t something you want to drink and it is definitely not fooling anyone. I spent years and years trying to be positive, trying not to get upset or let my emotions overcome me. It is true that as you practice being more positive your overall mood will change in that direction… and your happiness will bring more goodness into your life. I am not telling you that being positive doesn’t work – because it absolutely does. I am just saying that to reach the next level in your growth that all of the buried negativity needs to be cleaned out as well. A good therapist or counselor is a great place to start of course and is highly recommended alongside any self-help techniques that you do as it can exponentially improve your progress. Some of the clearing methods that worked well for me are The Silva Method which was developed by Jose Silva or ho’oponopono, a Hawaiian method for clearing – specifically the version developed by Morrnah Simeona. Once you have released the negativity from your subconscious you will notice that many of the blocks to success that you previously encountered seem to dissipate and things go more smoothly for you.
